Nuwara Eliya, a serene escape, blends misty mountains, tea estates, and colonial British charm, truly a haven of peace like no other.

From Explorer's Find to "Little England

Back in 1846, an explorer named Samuel Baker, who had traveled the upper Nile and Lake Albert, discovered a peaceful spot in Sri Lanka's hills. He founded Nuwara Eliya, drawn to its cool climate and natural beauty.
Today, many of the town's buildings still show their colonial roots, like the Queen’s Cottage, General’s House, and the Grand Hotel. The name "Nuwara Eliya," which means "City of Light" in Sinhala, reflects the town’s bright, peaceful vibe.

The British soon built cozy villas and cottages, creating a charming town that came to be known as "Little England." It became a popular getaway for British civil servants and planters looking for relief from the heat.
